But it wasn’t just the warm colors of an African sunset that set this winter collection apart, it was also the very warm weather approach to the lineup in general that made the show look free of the construct of seasons. As everyone knows by now, seasons are so last season. With this in mind, Koma presented his sporty tailored collection against a video backdrop of a blazing high noon sun and had his models walk down a runway covered in a fine layer of sand.

He started out strong with a series of black leather ensembles withcontrasting white stitch work in a subtle nod to traditional Africanscarifications used to beautify the body. From there he slowly workedin animal-patterned elements into his designers. They would appear inside the folds of a pleated skirt, or in controlled chain fringing and finally as the dominant pattern on dresses and tops in bright sunshine yellow.

Another cool savannah touch was the way Koma used embossed croc leather strips to create body con designs that slightly separated when the models moved to show a molten color underneath. It made for a clever cracked earth effect and acted as a nice counterpoint to a series of more fluid satin dresses that used a graphic lines of sunset colors for a sporty chic alternative.
