Maybe it was because their show fell on Valentine’s Day or perhaps designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne knew they had to up their game this season, but when the first look from their most recent Public School show hit the runway — a fuchsia long coat over a burgundy marble printed dress — pulses started to race in the audience.
Such strong shades from a brand known for its love of an urban color palette (black, white gray) gave the sporty backbone of this brand a new dynamism. The layering of oversized athletic wear also felt right on the money in terms what customer are currently looking for as they brave the cold weather on the East Coast — cool style that will keep them warm.
Besides the introduction of bold colors, other key take-away ideas from this collection included rugged raw-edged denim pieces that look designed for long term use and the mix of matte and shine fabric in the same tonal hues to refresh the more banal staples.
The duo pushed their style forward this season and in doing so kept this brand feeling relevant.
