In a surprise move Giorgio Armani produced an Emporio collection that was full of color, bold geometry and eye-catching textural match-ups.
Remember Armani is a man who hasn’t met a shade of gray, black or navy he doesn’t like. So to see him wheeling out bubblegum pink, highlighter yellow and emerald green is bound to make his audience do a double take. But it was how the designer combined those colors with graphic prints, rounded silhouettes and geometric shapes that had them really sitting up and taking notice. It made for a fully realized show that served as an ode to the 80s. Armani was right on point considering the decade is shaping up to be the go-to era this Milan Fashion Week.
It somehow also seemed fitting that consumers living in the current hyper-digital age would want to look back with nostalgia at the naïve charm of the time of the original digital revolution. Titled « New Pop », the collection also touched on the Memphis Group artistic movement and its visually arresting style.
In keep with the playful retro-tech feel of the show let’s just say this collection deserved a 🙂
