The Emanuel Ungaro show got off to a late start on Friday night. But that’s what happens when a pop star wants to make a diva entrance. As singer Kelly Rowland arrived, a gaggle of photographers and cameramen documenting her every move trailed behind her.
Then the lights finally went down and stayed down. Instead designer Fausto Puglisi shone a spotlight on his models as they walked along his plush black catwalk. Just like Ms. Rowland, the Ungaro woman likes to make an entrance, she has diva tendencies and wears clothing that play up all of her God given curves.
There is a famous saying about how it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind, and Puglisi translated that concept into a collection all about contrasts, both in terms of bold prints and animal spots but also striking juxtapositions of fabrics.
The perfect example was the first look on the runway. Puglisi paired up a midi pencil skirt in a leopard print with a bomber jacket covered in bright blooms worn over a Yves Klein blue turtle neck and finished off with fishnet stockings and black ankle wrap heels.
It was the opening of a collection filled with heady mix-and-match ensembles that had a touch of 80s Dynasty decadence about them. A modern day Joan Collins would look fabulous throwing shade in some of these Ungaro silhouettes.
